there has been an outstanding amount of media coverage for this family who got lost in the woods. I think there are stories that are like this that happen every day, who decides what types of these stories get this massive amount of coverage. I don’t understand it.

clay aiken hosted with kelly ripa and she didn’t like the way he conducted himself. He placed his hand over her mouth during an interview. She said something on he air about it, which struck a cord with rosie o donnell on the view. she began to call kelly out as being a homophobe, in regard to clay aiken, then kelly called in to the view to confront rosie, she said clay aiken has never come out so who are you to discuss his sexuality and my concerns on your show? This story was all over the news, but is this a story that neccessarily deserved such explicit media coverage?

i recently read an article for a paper in another class about a company called santaplus. they handle santas during the holiday and send them to malls. Strange how christmas gets further and further away from the true meaning. its so commercial now. Every company and business capitalizes on the man in red in order to boost holiday sales. and as consumers we delve into it as well, theres no escaping it.

interesting media exposure

i got a free subscription to rolling stone magazine. I think through something i purchased but i’m not entirely sure. I thought this was really an interesting way to expose people to a product or medium. I read it now. Becuase of the free effort i’ll probably continue the subscription or pass it along to get others interesed in it as well, that was probably their reasoning behind.

the new playstation 3 is out just in time for the holiday season. the commercial is really strange. I take an advertising class, and i just can’t make the connections in this tv commercial. It apparently is supposed to be amazing but this commercial is so weird. i guess maybe the idea behind it is to make people curious about it, which i’m sure they already are. I heard they are only making a set number, that makes poeple go nuts also. should be interesting to see how that all works out this holiday.

The media has recently targeted a police encounter with a minority. A black man was shot several times the night before his wedding, mistakenly through an undercover stint. Similar to the Dialo case. I always wonder what stories are left out, and how much these are exaggerated or catapulted into our living rooms. We are unable to control what the media shoots out at us, they control the content, truth and all other aspects.

Kickoff the holiday season

Thanksgiving is the official kickoff to the holiday season. I feel like each year it comes quicker and quicker. Christmas is a spectacle, and the primetime for retailers to strike the big numbers. We fall into this nostalgic spirit of christmas and usually have no control over our spending during the holidays. The media loves christmas. Every brand, company, product, tv channel and show put a holiday spin on their gig. Holiday sales, colors, episodes, promotional giveaways, decorations music, drilling it into our heads to buy buy buy ! It is so entirely commercial and gets worse each year in my own opinion.

Little tidbit, when I am on AOL instant messenger, I am constantly rolling over the advertisment at the top with my mouse…NOT on purpose. When this happens a video takes up the screen trying to advertise a store, movie, or product to me. This technique is effective, only because it is in your face and you really can’t escape it, but to the viewer, quite annoying, but i guess any exposure is good exposure.

Grey’s is big enough already, but a genius move has been made. You can now watch all previous episodes free on the site, along with other abc hits. This will surely bring in new fans and keep the old ones glued. So many people don’t watch a show because they have missed to much and don’t understand what is going on. This is a surefire way to keep the ratings way high, and the viewers coming.
